Not to get into an argument (about the past no less), but the AS/400 was a complete break from the S/38. If it wasn't, the could have left the OBJ.LIB syntax in place, but instead they went with lib/obj with an obvious eye towards the IFS that didn't get implemented for many years. No, the fact that the AS/400 was so radically different and yet still supported nboth S/36 and S/38 modes was something of an engineering miracle. Unfortunately, some folks have let that miracle drag on a bit too long, and with IBM's strategy of trying to get people to newer releases, you had to see the writing on the wall.
