You're certainly right, Rich. I'm pretty sure there was no requirement for func(-x) = -func(x). By their nature, step functions in particular tend to not have this property. To have the function be reflective over the zero point, you'd need to use the absolute function, I think: %abs(amt)/amt * %int((%abs(amt) + (increment - delta)) / increment) But this is probably where I'd draw the line and use the IF statement. The function wasn't intended for negative numbers and a credit is really just the negative of the fee calculated, so the right way from a business standpoint is to do as you say and calculate the fee and multiple by -1.
