Hi Mike,

try date format *YMD0 instead of *YMD/.
With *YMD/ you'll concert your date into a character string that looks as
follows: YY/MM/DD.
With %DEC you can only convert charater strings that contain digits, blanks
and optionally a decimal point or decimal comma.

*YMD0 will convert your date into a character representation that looks as
follows: YYMMDD
This string can be converted into a numeric value.

If you are already on release V5R3M0, it's possible to directly convert a
date into a numeric presentation by using the built-in-function %DEC:
 MyDateNum = %Dec(MyDateChar: *YMD);

I am try to use free format to convert a date field inot a numeric field..

I used the following command and it does not work.

     D*  date fields..
     D @dateA          s               d   inz(D'2004-12-04')
     D*  numeric fields..
     D @numA           s              6  0 inz(041205)

      // date to numeric..
       @numA = %dec(%char(@dateA:*ymd/):6:0);

I am new to RPG. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
