I remember coding on forms, then going to the keypunch machine and punching the cards. Sometimes then sorting the cards, or duplicating the cards in a machine that to change the pattern of the replication you needed to change the hardwiring in a removable 'board'. Nothing like dropping the deck from a 5000 line program, or having the card reader jam hard 1/2 way through the deck.
