Only as it relates to I/O.  I think the original idea behind LIKEREC was to
enable the record layout to be nested without having to specify an
externally described DS as well.  I guess they could have used EXTNAME to
achieve that, but since LIKEDS was already in play, it made sense to add
LIKEREC for nesting purposes.
