In dealing with remote database issues in the past, I've learned that PTF's for sometimes seemingly unrelated problems (at least according to the description in the APAR) will fix the issue you're facing. Since the code you're using should work on V5R2 (and others have pointed out that it does), you're best bet would be to call IBM support on this. My guess is that they're going to want you to get current on PTF's before they go too much into troubleshooting. It's also possible that the PTF that fixes this problem isn't part of the cume's (we've run across this issue, stuff you think should be in a cume or at least in the HIPER's isn't) and you have to get it either individually or as part of another group PTF.
