Yes, but Scott, are you on V5R3 or V5R2? 
I seem to remember a bug in V5R2 in this area. 
It was fixed, I thought with a PTF, but perhaps it was just enhanced in V5R3
instead. <g>

Hmmm... I just tried your programs, and both programs worked without 
errors on my machine.
