DB2 in UTF-8 Format -- RPG400-L

What is UTF-8 format (DB2)? Are RPG/ILE compilers compatible with this
format on V5R3? 

Did anyone ever convert the database to UTF-8 format? If yes did you have to
recompile the RPG/ILE programs after conversion?
