In addition to needing the MAXDEV keyword on the F-spec, you need to do a separate WRITE and READ from the display file record (do not use EXFMT).

Subject: RPG program with timeout Display file

Hi there,
I'm sure that I have done this before but today it doesn't seem to be
working.
I have created a display file with 3 record formats, a subfile with control
and a footer format. When I compiled the display file I changed the
maximumrecord wait time (WAITRCD) to 30 seconds. (Which, if I remember
correctly, will let the display timeout after 30 seconds if no input has
been entered)
I have a RPG program which will output to this display file, ONLY it doesn't
timeout after 30 seconds, it waits for user input, either the Enter key or
F3.
HELP..
