If you want to be sure it actually runs first, you will want to put the
"C exsr initial" statement in the *INZSR.

Not only that, but there are other factors to consider. *INZSR is done after the files are opened, but before any record identifiers are turned on. Fields initialized in *INZSR are subject to RESET to those values. And a few other points, which are usually moot, but worthy of consideration. The RPG Cycle (pp 65-66 of the ILE RPG Reference manual) covers these differences.
