probably the simplest way is to have the number saved in a file somewhere, perhaps along with other similar numbers? Then, when a program calls your new program your new program can get the last valid number, add 1 to it, and update the file with the newest valid number. The record is locked during these three lines of code, so there never would be an instance where the program would provide the same number twice, --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: 11/09/05 18:18:42 To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Only one instance of program. Hi, Is there anyway by which I can ensure that only one instance of a program is running? This program generates a number and there is chance that it can be called by 2 programs to generate number and there is a chance both can get same number. Regards, Venky.
