It's easier in RPG, since you have more control over the I/O. Think about it: one UPDATE per field would be a horrendous overhead. The only way you could have any sort of acceptable performance would be to build the entire INSERT or UPDATE statement for all the fields on the fly. In any case, I think of that as more of a tool than an application. That's sort of my point; with tools I'd pay a lot of attention to performance, since if I'm going to the trouble of reinventing the wheel chances are I'm going to be using it an awful lot. My RPG-based XML parser flies compared to anything else I've tried. Joe
