Good question. Does the MOVE leave the two binary bytes at the beginning that say how long the varying field is? And, since it's probably 8 characters or less it starts out the field with x'0008...'. Thus the sql goes bonkers with a x'00' in the first position. Move, what a primitive statement. Rob Berendt
