Which list API are you using? I know that *some* (unless I've just been lucky) sort ascending by default...so it stands to reasson that some of them may have a "sort" parameter. Apparently they do not support any sorting. I suppose I could originally load into an array, then SORTA that, then load the subfile. Anything easier? Not that the above process is hard.
