I'd agree with this, but I also look at the entire length of the string. If the entire length is over 25 but under 30 or so, I'd start looking at about character 20. I don't care for the look of a full line and then one short word on the next line. I'd rather have a couple of words, at least, on the second line when the field is over 25 characters. If the field has a length of ((length - field break) > 25) then I just break at 25 as characters will be truncated otherwise. (I hope that formula is correct. I want to be sure that part 2 of the string is 25 or less; otherwise just split it at 25.) --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: 08/22/05 13:40:35 To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: Breaking text > I'd start at the 25th character and work back until I found the first space. > Then you split the text up at that position. Much simpler than scanning > forward. This is the way I do it as well, except that I always start in the 26th spot instead of the 25th. (It's okay for the 25th position to be a non-space, since that'll still fit into a 25A field) --
