Charles, It's not really and external "procedure" and an external program per say. What you are looking for is the EXTPGM keyword on the prototype. The EXTPGM keyword on a prototype allows for calls to an external program using CALLP. In the prototype, the "procedure name" is the name you want to use to call this external program. But you're not call a external procedure, like you would if you had a procedure in a service program. You're calling an external program just like a standard CALL.
