If you want an RPG compiler that identifies the Date data type correctly, you should use ILE RPG. Using the TIME opcode in RPG/400 is error prone, because the format of the date part depends on the job date format. So you can't be sure that you really have the date in the format you expect. Using ILE RPG, you can do the TIME opcode directly into a true Date, and you can be sure that the date is represented correctly.
