When it's a pointer, it's unlikely that there will be a valid pointer there, but it's not impossible. Eventually, a valid pointer will happen to be there, and unpredictable things will happen when you access the parameter. You first have to check %parms to see how many parameters were passed, and then once you know a parameter was passed, you can check for the address being null.
