An alternative way of coding this type of structure is to use overlay. 
I find it the easiest way to code the subfields when working directly
from the API manual.

 D  nBytesRtn                    10I 0 OVERLAY(szMbrd0100 : 1)
 D  nBytesAval                   10I 0 OVERLAY(szMbrd0100 : 5)
