Craig Pelkie has an article called "Using Java to access Microsoft SQL 
Server from RPG" in iSeries 400 Experts Journal July/Autust 2005 Volume 8, 
Number 4.  In this he also suggested using data queues to communicate 
between the rpg program and the java program.  Sample code, etc.
