Michael, You can connect to a Sybase database if you have a JDBC driver for the Sybase database. An RPG IV program could be written that would do it all through the Java JNI interface. With the Java JNI interface you'd have to worry about Java garbage collection and creating stuff like Java strings to pass to the JDBC driver. Could be more cumbersome to only do it with RPG IV. It might be best to write a helper/facade Java class to access the database through JDBC. Then you could call methods on that class from RPG to read and write a record from a table. Paul
