Rob, but beware of the over-use of SQL. Using SQL where it's better than native I/O leads to using SQL where it's as good as native I/O; that leads to using SQL everywhere; using SQL everywhere leads you straight to the lava pits of the dark side. <Can you tell which movie I saw last?> Peter Colpaert Application Developer Massive - Kontich, Belgium ----- Yoda of Borg are we. Alan, As you personally attest, now that you have imbedded SQL you use it because it's easier. There's still a lot of chest pounders that feel all programmers would be better if they started out coding assembler. The precompiler got a LOT better in V5R3. But prior to that, you were right - it seemed a shame to be paying for ST1 when they put zero dollars into development of it. I've been in some good discussions with IBM and I am convinced that V5R3 was not the end of the line for enhancements to the precompiler and we will never return to the dark ages. Rob Berendt
