Mark, If you're opening the file with Excel 2003 and saving it after it's been created, that may be your problem. POI only works with certain versions of Excel. The versions it works with are documented on the POI website. Of course, one of the problems you're having is that you're not getting the reason why the exception was triggered (in Java, you can call the getMessage method on the exception to get the reason). I'm not sure if you can get that or not when calling Java classes from RPG (there may be something in the archives about this). When I try to open a spreadsheet from within a job that didn't create the spreadsheet. I'm wondering if it's because I may be opening the workbook and saving it as it's closed. I'm using Excel 2003.
