Embedded SQL and qualified variables at V5R3

I can't find anywhere where IBM says that qualified variables are *not*
supported as host variables in SQL but am getting precompile errors with the
following statement.

c/Exec SQL                            
c+ Insert Into CmdLog                 
c+           ( SysNam,                              
c+             CmdNam,                
c+             CmdLib,                
c+             CmdStr )               
c+    Values ( :SysNam,                           
c+             :InParm.CmdNam,        
c+             :InParm.CmdLib,   
          <snip>     

Was wondering if this is possible at V5R3?
