I've never used anything but the filename - at least until V5R2's .... into DS option forced me to use format name from time to time. I've never experienced anything "strange". No errors, no mystery records, etc. My experience in compiler support leads me to believe that those who have experienced such problems perhaps didn't report it to IBM and that had they done so, in most cases it would have been a user error. Sometimes it is indeed a compiler bug, but they are the minority and usually quickly fixed. Have any of you that have mentioned these "odd" happenings with using the file name reported them?
