I found the problem. Everything works now. I created the SQL function with: ============================================================= CREATE FUNCTION AVRTWRK/FR47LATE (DEC (3,0), DEC (7,0), DEC (8,0),DEC (8,0), DEC (8,0), CHAR (7), DEC (3,0), CHAR (7), CHAR (20), CHAR (2), CHAR (6)) RETURNS DEC (1,0) I left out Rob Berendt's: ===================================================== language rpgle deterministic no sql returns null on null input no exterNal action allow parallel simple call external name 'AVRTWRK/FR47LATE(FR47LATE)' So now the SQL statement looks like this: ============================================================= CREATE FUNCTION AVRTWRK/FR47LATE (DEC (3,0), DEC (7,0), DEC (8,0),DEC (8,0), DEC (8,0), CHAR (7), DEC (3,0), CHAR (7), CHAR (20), CHAR (2), CHAR (6)) RETURNS DEC (1,0) language rpgle deterministic no sql returns null on null input no exterNal action allow parallel simple call external name 'AVRTWRK/FR47LATE(FR47LATE)' Tony Carolla <carolla@xxxxxxxxx>@midrange.com on 04/12/2005 04:46:07 PM Please respond to RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx To: RPG programming on the AS400/iSeries <rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: Subject: Re: SQL - User Defined Function Errors You need to debug the UDF. Somebody directed me to an excellent tidbit on http://faq.midrange.com (search for UDF). It explains starting a service job, and debugging the module behind the UDF.
