So we've gone from theory to absolutes? 
This is software we're talking about, right?
All I was saying is that as an RPG Archeologist, I would conclude that the
programmer probably had:
(A) the same code to handle the subfile-full condition as the error
condition.
Or
(B) Did not fully understand that Resulting Indicator 3 means "subfile full"
and added the error indy "just in case".

Not sure I'd agree that an error reading the subfile should be treated the
same as hitting EOF.

But, forget it's a subfile.  All the other opcodes allow this to do they
not?

Doesn't seem to me like it is a good idea to use the same indicator in both
places.  Is this a generally accepted practice?  Does it really work?  Is
the indicator set on if there's an error OR if you hit EOF?
