Bob, There is an API to retrieve an encrypted password. Apparently this is meant to be used in conjunction with another API to set a password of a user profile, not to validate a login. Have you considered using a DDM file? If you have an SNA connection, it is easy enough to create a temporary DDM file (QTEMP) and copy to that file. It seems that does under the covers exactly what you are trying to achieve.
