The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I still want to know if it is possible to insert hex characters in a
barcode, though. Just seems like it ought to work.
It depends on the bar code. Each symbology has a different set of
characters that it supports.
Frankly, imbedding characters into the bar code is the wrong solution to
the problem. Your bar code should not be modelled around the limitations
of your display interface!
Most barcode readers can be configured to automatically add characters
(such as CR/LF or whatever) to the data after the bar code has been
scanned. This makes much more sense than trying to embed it into the bar
code.
If you can't do that, then I'd suggest not inputting the data the way
you're doing it. Instead, get a bar code reader that hooks up to a serial
or USB port. Have a PC program that reads the scan and sends it via data
queue to the RPG program.
The RPG program can then format it properly, put it on the screen, set the
cursor location, etc, appropriately. You no longer have to worry about
inserting special codes to make the 5250 terminal jump through hoops.
