I think the US approach involves a comfortably sized length of pipe. When RPGIV first came out I was trying to sell my boss on the advantages. I mentioned the ability to write calculations as expressions with parentheses and other "frills." He said that he didn't see any advantage because he could read the C Spec Classic as easily as he could read algebraic notation. I don't think he was exaggerating. Fortunately IBM eventually stopped supporting v2r3. <g> Last year he took me to task for not using the "shop standard" RPGIII (barely) date program--a monster that takes more than 10 parms, returns anything you could conceivably want, and requires a cheat sheet to use. I convinced him that RPGIV date arithmetic was at least as accurate (his big concern) and easier to use. It wasn't easy. It's been about ten years since he did much coding. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jon Paris Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2005 10:15 AM To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Procedure names vs. production support >> Like I meant to say, it's an excuse for continuing the old way of doing things by demonstrating how 'impossible it is to effect change in our environment.' There now - I knew we wouldn't really disagree that much Buck! I think that public floggings in the car park can work wonders to cure this kind of thing <grin> Jon Paris Partner400 www.Partner400.com -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. ***************************** NOTICE: All e-mail sent to or from this e-mail address will be received or otherwise recorded by The Sharper Image corporate e-mail system and is subject to archival, monitoring, and review by and/or disclosure to Sharper Image security and other management.
