RE: PASS *BLANK TO VARIABLE ?

You don't pass it you assign the value to a variable then use the variable
in your sql statement. For example:

/Free
  A=*Blank;
/End-free

/Exec Sql
C+...
C+ Where fieldnameforcompare = :A
C+.....
/End-exec
