For the case where you were able to see the Java source and set a
breakpoint, did you remember to CRTJVAPGM on that class?

Maybe it's still calling some other version of your class even though
you see that version in source debug.  Maybe you could add some print
statements to the one you can see in the debugger, just to see if that
is actually the version you are calling.

Or maybe you need to sign off and sign back on, to get a fresh JVM after
you create the new class.
