If you created multiple PF's with a multi-format LF, you would need to have a format selector program for the MFLF so that you could write to it. This way the other programs could continue to access the file.

Multi-format LF's work quite well for this purpose. For input only, you can create the fields with SST(). But the beast for the long term is probably to separate out each format into its own PF and use the MFLF as the glue to bring them all together. The MFLF would have the same name as the original PF.
