Peter,

POI and HSSF are both digs at Microsoft's OLE 2 Compound File Format (it's
basically structured like a file system). HSSF stands for Horrible SpreadSheet
Format and POI stands for Poor Obfuscation Implementation.

Also, there are some things that you can't do with HSSF that you can do in
Excel (I don't know if the attributes you want are among the things you can't
do). One option is to create a template spreadsheet with those options set and
modify that. I have an example of a servlet that does just that. Drop me an
email and I'll send it to you.

Matt

Subject: Using Java in RPGLE - cell comments and document properties

One more thing I'm looking for when creating an Excel spreadsheet from RPGLE
is the ability to create cell comments and document properties such as
Title, Subject, Author, etc. My customer would like to indicate that the
spreadsheet was created on the AS/400 by the AS/400. Yes, AS/400 -- their
users don't have a clue about iSeries.

I did not see anything on the Jakarta POI/HSSF (what do those stand for
anyway, POI and HSSF?) website, but I followed this link
http://sc.openoffice.org/excelfileformat.pdf and did a little reading.
There wasn't anything specific, but there is a "NOTE" record in there that
might be it. Am I missing something again? Or is this just not implemented
yet?
