We are using Message Labs to start spam blocking. Currently we just have it in the checking phase - it changes the subject line by adding SPAM to the beginning. Shortly we will be telling it to just trash this stuff. Many midrange ezines are being targeted as spam. I wonder if it is truly basing it on the content or the way that many of them mass mail themselves out through some other service other than their own. Sample of those affected: anything from MC Press Online (which must be getting a few of these because they recently sent out an email on how they may need to be whitelisted - which are network people don't seem to be able to get right for them). I've even had a few from the midrange-l come back flagged as spam. Here's the page source on one from MC Press Online: X-VirusChecked: Checked X-Env-Sender: bounce-use=M=461900825=echo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx X-Msg-Ref: server-13.tower-95.messagelabs.com!1101724124!2066999!1 X-StarScan-Version: 5.4.2; banners=-,-,- X-Originating-IP: [66.77.60.197] X-SpamInfo: spam detected heuristically X-Spam-Flag: YES X-SpamReason: Yes, hits=50.0 required=7.0 tests=spam signature: spam.multi-28625 Subject: =?utf-8?q?=53=50=41=4D=3A=20?= MC Mag Online - Focus on IBM Lotus Domino Received: (qmail 10034 invoked from network); 29 Nov 2004 10:28:44 -0000 Received: from ipmx03.bluehornet.com (66.77.60.197) by server-13.tower-95.messagelabs.com with SMTP; 29 Nov 2004 10:28:44 -0000 Received: from bounces.bluehornet.com (192.168.10.40) by ipmx03.bluehornet.com with ESMTP; 29 Nov 2004 02:28:45 -0800 Message-Id: <380oc2$2ip6nm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Return-Path: <bounce-use=M=461900825=echo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> From: "MC Press Online" <MC_Mag_Online@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> And another one from them: X-VirusChecked: Checked X-Env-Sender: bounce-use=M=463776537=echo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx X-Msg-Ref: server-5.tower-95.messagelabs.com!1101892044!2243846!1 X-StarScan-Version: 5.4.2; banners=-,-,- X-Originating-IP: [66.77.60.197] X-SpamInfo: spam detected heuristically X-Spam-Flag: YES X-SpamReason: Yes, hits=50.0 required=7.0 tests=spam signature: spam.multi-28625 Subject: =?utf-8?q?=53=50=41=4D=3A=20?= MC RPG Developer - Cozzi on Let's Build a Procedure Received: (qmail 20953 invoked from network); 1 Dec 2004 09:07:25 -0000 Received: from ipmx03.bluehornet.com (66.77.60.197) by server-5.tower-95.messagelabs.com with SMTP; 1 Dec 2004 09:07:25 -0000 Received: from bounces.bluehornet.com (192.168.10.80) by ipmx03.bluehornet.com with ESMTP; 01 Dec 2004 01:07:26 -0800 Message-Id: <380oc2$2peh1n@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Return-Path: <bounce-use=M=463776537=echo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> From: "MC Press Online" <MC_RPG_Developer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Rob Berendt -- Group Dekko Services, LLC Dept 01.073 PO Box 2000 Dock 108 6928N 400E Kendallville, IN 46755 http://www.dekko.com
