About three or four years ago I worked for a company that because of budget
constraints had to buy second user disk drives for their 720. We purchased
around 96GB worth pre-installed and delivered in an expansion tower. The
unit was brought online and in the following two years that I remained with
the company we never had any trouble with the disks.

The disks we bought were second user IBM disks as opposed to a third party
manufacturers and were guaranteed to be accepted on IBM Maintenance
contracts. I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending second-user disks
to anyone.

As with any disks you install, it is always wise to have some form of RAID
or Mirroring protection set up to minimise the risk of data loss in the
event of disk failure.

Best regards

Jonathan

Subject: Used Drives

We are thinking about adding some used drives (35 gb, 15k) to our system.
We have always purchased new drives, so we have no experience with "used"
drives. Any comments, horror stories, or sage advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe Wells
