I recently had an occasion where I needed to pass the contents of a record down 
to called modules.  I read into a data structure and passed the address to the 
other modules so I wouldn't have to re-read the same record.

Would comparing fields from one file to another be the only reason to 
read an external file into a data structure?  If not, could someone give
