Tony, A SQL LF is actually a LF without selection capabilities. It is called an INDEX (same as your reference to keys). You can chain to them and use them in any RPG program (exception of RPG III which will not allow certain data types like date, time, blobs, NULLS, etc.). You can create a LF with redefined fields that substring data from another field and have an index. Ex: OUTQP is a work file from TAATOOL command CVTOUTQ. You could even put a select/omit condition over one of the new index fields. A R SPLREC PFILE(OUTQP) A SPJNAM A SPUSER A SPJNBR A SPFNBR A SPSTS A SPFTYP A SPDAT A SPUDTA A JNNBR 2A I SST(SPJNAM 3 2) A COLHDG('JOB NAME DEV NBR') A TEXT('JOB NAME DEV NBR + A IE - CM (01)') A JALPH 2A I SST(SPJNAM 1 2) A COLHDG('JOB NAME ALPHA CHR') A TEXT('JOB NAME ALPHA CHR + A IE - (CM) 01') A K JNNBR A K JALPH A K SPJNAM Thank you, Matt Tyler WinCo Foods, Inc mattt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: Tony Carolla [mailto:carolla@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 12:12 p To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: CHAIN to an SQL LF? I have a file with a memo field, and I want an LF over this file that only shows records where the first character of the memo field contains a '6'. I dont' know that there is a way to do this using DDS, so I have built an SQL LF using the RUN SQL SCRIPTS applet over the file, that only selects records based on this condition. The problem is I can't CHAIN to this file because it is non-keyed. Is there a way to create an SQL LF with 'keys'? I don't have the iSeries SQL development LPs either... -- "Enter any 11-digit prime number to continue..." -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
