It makes sense that in a business oriented language the size of a number is
determined by the number of digits that may be entered on the screen or may be
printed on a form, not by the number of bytes it occupies in memory. It is
somewhat unfortunate that the new integer types, which are determined by the
number of bytes, still use the 'number-of-digits' notation. I seem to remember
Hans and/or Barbara sort of agreeing on that.
