Great if I'm using native I/O, as I often do.  In SQL the 
VALUES IDENTITY_VAL_LOCAL() INTO  :IVAR
works great.  I even tried inserting a row in another sesion and retriving the 
value after, it came out ok, SQL ignored the value from the other session.
