× The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

        I created the 7p 0 fields and now it is finding index's no problem.

There are two battles here:
1)  Why parameters get corrupted.
2)  Why the SQL optimizer won't optimize.

To concentrate on the SQL, have you tried moving the parameter field into a
7,0P field; and then using this work field in your imbedded SQL?
