Nope, but I will in future.  I did find out what the problem was-- it wasn't
(strangely) my code.  

Yesterday, we had some bizarre hiccup in our comms subsystem.  Finally I had to
delete and re-create some device descriptions (varying didn't work), and
suddenly, things were moving nicely.  I only lost 6 hrs on the damn thing >:(

Anyway, thanks for your help, everyone.
