Be alert -where- you define the field.

For example, if I have a field IPRICE defined in PF as S(9,3) and try to use it
to define a subfield in a DS the compiler will NOT define the field as S(9,3)
but as packed P(9,3).

D* Field IPRICE is defined in PF as S(9,3)
DDefineFlds DS
D tPRICE1 Like(iPRICE1)
D tPRICE2 Like(iPRICE1)

Compiler will show
*RNF7031 TPRICE1 P(9,3)
*RNF7031 TPRICE2 P(9,3)

---------------------------------------

An interesting flip...

D* Field IPRICE is defined in PF as S(9,3)
DDefineFlds DS
D tPRICE1 Like(iPRICE1)

D tPRICE2 Like(iPRICE1)
D iPRICE1

Compiler will show
*RNF7031 TPRICE1 S(9,3)
*RNF7031 TPRICE2 S(9,3)

Subject: Numeric Fields.

Hi,

It is just out of curiosity that I am asking this question. If I define a
numeric variable in RPG400 using *LIKE DEFINE (the source field is zones) or
Z-ADD *Zeros #X with attributes 4,0 it gets defined as packed. But If I were to
define a field as datastructure subfield with same attributes using a
datastructure it gets defined as zoned.

Can anyone please explain how and why this happens ?

Reagrds,
Venky
