That is, if you often CHAIN to a file to retrieve a few fields, then you have too many fields in the record format (it's not normalised enough.) One way to retrofit the database is to use a logical file which only has the fields you're interested in. That can help your performance in the service program. (Fewer fields to decode and buffer for you.) --buck
