Dave: Sometime years ago, when all the system SQL catalog views were being made available, I'd swear I saw some IBM document recommending not to read QADBXREF and similar physical files directly, but rather to access the data through the views provided by IBM. At the time, the risk was in having locks against the files while data management was trying to keep those files maintained. Enough years and OS/400 versions/releases have gone by that it might not be relevant anymore, and it might have just been a CYA warning from IBM back then. However, I still leave the base files alone and always use whatever view is appropriate... just in case. Some bug could reappear at any time. It just seems reasonable.
