I am trying to use the IBM QADSPJR3 file (DSPJRN/*outfile
OUTFILFMT(*TYPE3)/record format QJORDJE3) in my RPGLE program. The F-spec in
my program uses QADSPJR3, with override EXTFILE to an existing file. This
existing file was created using the DSPJRN (*outfile mode) command for the
specific file being journaled. Having used *outfiles mostly for CLP RCVF
operations, I wasn't expecting a field size problem. However, JOESD in the
template occupies bytes 222 thru 323, the "actual" occupies bytes 222 thru
1194. Makes sense, and of course the program blows up. However, I was hoping
to use the IBM template file to assure that we didn't miss any changes IBM
might make to the operating system in the future. I guess I could internally
define the file. That's messy (and would subject me to peer abuse!) Does
anyone know of a way around this?

TIA!
