RE: packed v zoned in compiles -- RPG400-L

× The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

The default is packed. The zoned statement would have to be:

    VNTIME     11      16s 0     

This dates back as far as V1 on the System/38.

I'm trying to explain this to a customer:
RPG program compile listing shows the file with 
some zoned fields like     VNTIME     11      16  0    
but the list of fields at bottom of compile listing have
VNTIME     P(6.0) 

Why?      same in both V5r1 and V5r2
