Best solution, convert to externally defined printer files and use the OVERLAY keyword at the DDS record level. Otherwise, your only option will be as you've already found. Opening and closing qsysprt with RPG issuing the appropriate OVRPRTF before opening it for the next page. Performance would be negatively impacted, though it may or may not be noticeable. But at least the pages would print in order for your users. Note: there are various free and not-free utilities out there that convert o-specs to DDS printer files. iSeries Network has one I've used before. HTH, Charles > -----Original Message----- > From: > Sent: None > Subject: > > > Hello, I am currently writing a program in RPG 400 .. using Qsysprt and Overlays .. Here is the problem ... a file is read primary in the program ... for each record a purchase order is printed ... each purchase order is 4 different pages ... initially I was going to do 4 different out files (qsysprt1,qsysprt2,etc) and in the CL have an ovrprtf to each one using the appropriate overlay created with Page Maker ... but this is not well liked by our purchasing department ... that would mean the pages were printed separately and would have to be re-sorted so ... they want all the pages for each purchase order to be printed one after another ... I cannot figure out how to accomplish this ... using multiple overlays ... I tried to open and close qsysprt and ovrprtf in the RPG ... but unless I close it first .. the ovrprtf doesn't work ... so I am stuck ... any help would be appreciated ...
