Keep in mind that a file can have multiple members, and each will have
their own count.
Then remember that OS/400 commands have a format of verb/noun, or
verb/noun/adjective
RTV = Retrieve
MBR = Member
D = Description

If you didn't remember the D you could try
RTVMBR*
just like that and it will display the command. Just like RTV* will
display all commands beginning with RTV.

Then there is always the menu system. For example
GO CMDMBR

But I think the command you want is RTVMBRD.

Also, since you are asking this on the RPG list on how to retrieve the
number of records in a file in a CL program, then the only RPG you are
interested in is calling an API via RPG from your CL program. Therefore

Subject
Determining if a file has 0 records in CL

HI I am sure this has been covered but I can't find it.If a file has 0
records then I don't need to process further. I am trying RCVF but it
would need a counter there must be a command I can use.
Thanks,
Rob400
