Use of PF or LF as Work files -- RPG400-L

I noticed in this old process, one program creates the work file (PF) and the 
next pgm creates a Work file logical, and then prints the report off of this 
logical. Is there any benefit to this, could there not be a PF work file to 
print or would this take longer? The logicals are used previously bec. there 
are several print programs however mine is not part of that group.
